The process of fulfilling an order involves multiple steps. Orders are processed by a series of automated and manual steps designed to ensure that the correct items are picked, packed, and shipped in a timely manner.
Warehouse workers typically use a system called “pick and pack” to assemble orders.
First, they use a handheld scanner or a computer to locate the items in the warehouse that are included in the order. They then physically go to those locations and pick the items off the shelves. Note that an order may include several goods stored in different locations.
Next, they bring the items to a packing station, where they check the items to ensure they are the correct ones and that they are in good condition.
Finally, they pack the items into a box or other shipping container and label the package with the destination address and shipping information. The order is then ready to be shipped.
