An order is placed. What now?

The process of fulfilling an order typically involves multiple steps, including picking the items from the warehouse shelves, packing them, and preparing them for shipping.

Order receipt

The first step in the process is to receive the order, which can be done through a sales channel such as Amazon, a dedicated online store, phone, email, or other means.

Order validation

The order is then validated to ensure that all the required information is present, such as the customer’s name and address, and that the items are in stock and available for shipment.

Inventory Check

The warehouse management system is then used to check the inventory levels to ensure the items are available.

Picking and Packing

Once the order is validated, warehouse workers use a system called “pick and pack” to locate the items in the warehouse and physically pick them off the shelves. The warehouse workers check the items to ensure they are the correct ones and that they are in good condition and then pack them into a box or other shipping container.

Labeling

The package is labeled with the destination address and shipping information.

Shipping

The order is then shipped to the customer using the shipping method selected during the ordering process.

Tracking

The order is assigned a tracking number, and the customer can be notified of the shipment and track the order.

This process may vary slightly depending on the warehouse and the company’s specific process, but the above steps are the general process for order processing.
